France Bans Pro-Gaza Protests; 5,000 Defy

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve set a new international low. His socialist administration decided to attempt to vehemently put a muzzle to free speech and silence the masses as thousands set to march/rally for the Palestinian cause.

Mr Cazeneuve believes the protests are a clear “threat to public order” so, in response to vast number of people willing to march, he instructed up to three years imprisonment, along with up to 45,000 euros in fines. An embarrassingly desperate attempt to suffocate the publics wielding opinion against Israeli operations., failed.

The ban caused venomous reaction, as explosions of responses have shown distaste in the action. Michele Sibony of the Jewish Union for Peace, said: ‘By outlawing free speech by pro-Palestinian demonstrators, France puts itself in a unique position in the world and Europe.’ Youssef Boussoumah, of the Party of the Indigenous of the Republic (PIR) said: ‘France is criminalising any show of solidarity with the Palestinian people.’ Not to mention the thousands who ignored the ban and carried on protesting, displaying unhindered Palestinian solidarity. 5 thousand people went ahead to Paris showing their emotions, attacked by police and threatened with imprisonment.

The ban comes after hostility within the country after the first protests less than a week ago wherein there were claims that synagogues were being targeted by Palestinian demonstrators. However, these claims proved to be false, and the hostility brought on were by the Jewish Defence League (LDJ) as they provoked and poked at Pro-Palestinian protesters as you may have found online, where many people began posting videos of this occurrence.

However, in thinking this is just to protect the order, you’d be gravely wrong. Only pro-Palestine protests are banned. Counter-demonstrations by pro-Israel groups are not. This shows France’s long line of oppression on its muslim population, a population brought on by their own Imperialistic demands through history.

A country swamped by anti-Arab rhetoric, public policy which bans muslim women’s right to niqab, and girls to wear headscarves continues to surprise and continues to suppress.

Media Silent As The World Demands “Free-Palestine”
