Where Next For Ronaldo? Madrid Board Say Not Manchester

Is he United bound? Is it possible?

The Portuguese forward is proving his worth with his exceptional form in the past week by scoring his eighth goal against Villareal on Saturday. But that wasn’t the most highlighted action in the game, nor was it anything happening on the pitch by any of the players. A plane flying over El Madrigal stadium (Villareal) towed a banner that quoted, ‘COME HOME RONALDO’.

This was organised by supporters’ group UNITED REEL.

Unfortunately for the United supporters, Real Madrid have reportedly told Cristiano Ronaldo that they have no intention of allowing him to return to Manchester United.

According to Goal.com, the Spanish side have no interest in letting the Ballon d’Or holder leave next summer. Manchester United do not look in the best of form and it would be highly unlikely for the former United player to make a move to England if they can’t offer him Champions League football as there have been claims that Ronaldo would not be willing to move to a club without European football.

Today’s repot however offers a different view to those earlier this week as Madrid president Florentino Perez wants to create a splash by renewing his squad. This could be an opening for Man Utd as Madrid reportedly have been showing keen interest in Chelsea star Eden Hazard to replace Ronaldo.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal recently hinted his interest in signing the Portuguese international, suggesting that a deal “is possible.” He spent a stunning £150m this summer to strengthen the squad following the exit of a number of players from Old Trafford but has come to no avail as they are still in mid-table like last season.

Bringing Ronaldo would be a dream start for United next season and with the services of Wazza and Di Maria, they could once again start dominating the league. But the real question is should they spend a massive amount on Ronaldo to please the fans or spend the same money and buy a couple of quality defenders? And anyway, Ronaldo would turn 30 next season. Critics claim The Red Devils have really been lagging in defence which could cost them European football this season.

Van Gaal said that it is highly unlikely for Real Madrid to sell Ronaldo which would allow Van Gaal to focus on the defence and maybe have a shot at the title once again. This club’s future could be a make or break by the signing\ non-signing of world renowned Cristiano Ronaldo.
